Target Kementerian PUPR: Pembangunan Tahap I IKN Diharapkan Berhasil Selesai pada Tahun 2024

PUPR targets completion of IKN Nusantara infrastructure construction by 2024

Sorong, Southwest West Papua (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the completion of basic infrastructure development of the Nation’s Capital City (IKN) Stage 1 in East Kalimantan, including the construction of government office buildings in the Core Government Center Zone (KIPP), by 2024.

“The construction of the basic infrastructure of IKN Stage 1, whose work contract has begun since 2021, such as the construction of the IKN Stage 1 Access Toll Road, the Sepaku Semoi Dam, the Presidential Palace, and the Presidential Office,” said Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force at the Ministry of PUPR Danis H Sumadilaga in an official statement received in Sorong, Southwest West Papua, on Friday.

Danis stated that, so far, the progress of the construction of the basic infrastructure of IKN Stage 1 has reached 62.65 percent, and all activities are still on schedule.

“The Ministry of PUPR has also started the construction of the second stage of IKN. The second stage includes projects whose contract signings began in April-May 2023, such as the Coordinating Ministry building 2 and the IKN Civil Servant Housing with a current progress of 11 percent,” he said.

Some of the main IKN basic infrastructures that are expected to be completed by 2024 are for the provision of clean water and several road networks to improve connectivity to the IKN area.

“For clean water, the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam and the Sepaku Intake is currently being completed. Furthermore, the completion of the Drinking Water Supply System, including its distribution network to several areas in IKN, is also targeted for 2024,” Danis said.

As for connectivity, the Ministry of PUPR is currently completing the construction of a toll road leading to the Core Government Center Zone (KIPP) IKN.

For the first stage, the toll road that is connected to the Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road (Balsam) shortens the travel distance from Balikpapan to the IKN Core area from around two hours to less than one hour.

The construction of the IKN Toll Road, which is currently underway, is located in three sections, namely Section 3A Karangjoang-KKT Kariangau covering 13.4 km, Section 3B KKT Kariangau-Simpang Tempadung covering 7.32 km, and Section 5A Simpang Tempadung-Pulau Balang Bridge covering 6.67 km.

Currently, the progress for Segment 3A is 48 percent, Section 3B is 57 percent, and Section 5A is 67 percent. These three sections are targeted to be completed in mid-2024, around June or July.

As for Section 6A Riko-Prospect Outer Ring Road IKN and Section 6B Prospect Outer Ring Road-Simpang 3 ITCI, construction has already begun with a progress of 4.8 percent and 17.5 percent, respectively.

In Section 2, the IKN Toll Road is part of the Balsam Toll Road. As for Section 4, the construction of an immersed tunnel is prepared to maintain environmental sustainability.

In addition, in Section 4, two wildlife passages, akin to short tunnels, are provided.

“For the immersed tunnel, the design work is currently in the bidding process,” said Danis.

According to Danis, the construction of IKN is a great opportunity to design the city according to the theories, regulations, and vision of the development of the Nusantara City as a Smart Forest City.

This is because the urban development truly starts from scratch. Specifically for the Presidential Palace and the parade ground, the construction progress is currently at 42 percent, and the progress for the presidential office is 66 percent.
