Our Challenging Decisions and Battles

By: Prabowo Subianto, excerpted from “National Transformation Strategy: Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” pages 223-227, fourth softcover edition.

Entering politics for me meant embracing sacrifice in terms of energy, time, and emotion. Without engaging in politics, I believed there would be no way to improve the lives of many citizens. I am convinced that simply complaining and criticizing will not lead to substantial improvements in the lives of our citizens. Nor can we better our nation by only observing from the sidelines or reprimanding without taking action.

Some readers of this book may already be involved in politics or have an understanding of national politics, while others may not. To those who have not been involved, I urge you to consider the following.

There comes a time in life when we must make difficult choices. Do we uphold truth or tolerate falsehoods? Do we defend the integrity and independence of our nation and the values we hold dear, or do we give in to monetary temptations at the cost of our values, identity, and dignity?

These choices are tough. Throughout history, our leaders have faced similar dilemmas, such as the decision to declare independence in 1945 or defend Pancasila during the crisis in 1965.

In my political journey over the past 20 years, I have consistently shared the message found within this book, despite attempts to discredit me. I have proven my commitment to peace, despite being falsely accused of wanting to shut down churches in Indonesia or being anti-Chinese.

As a former TNI soldier, I have sworn to defend all Indonesians regardless of ethnicity, religion, or race. I have risked my life and witnessed the sacrifices of my subordinates, which I could never betray.

I urge my friends and supporters to remain patient and calm in the face of defamation and hatred. Reflect on your opinions, stance, and responses, and choose to defend truth over falsehood, fraud, and injustice.

I believe that Indonesia is currently facing foreign interference, but we must remain calm, patient, and have faith in our strength to face the challenges ahead.
