Jakarta – Minister of Defense and president-elect Prabowo Subianto welcomed the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) office in Jakarta on Thursday, April 18.
Wang Yi, along with his delegation, arrived at 10:58 AM WIB. Prabowo greeted him in front of the Kemhan building, and the two shook hands before entering the building.
“I am honored to receive him today. Thank you for the warm welcome; I was well received in Beijing a few weeks ago,” said Prabowo.
Prior to meeting Wang Yi in Jakarta, Prabowo had also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, and Chinese Minister of Defense China Dong Jun during an official visit to Beijing in early April 2024.
The meeting between Prabowo and Wang Yi was held privately, where they discussed various areas of defense cooperation such as education, joint training, and the defense industry.
Indonesia and China have a close partnership with several bilateral collaborations. In the defense sector, both countries have been cooperating in education and training since the 1970s.
The educational cooperation between the two countries continues to this day, with Indonesian defense personnel pursuing education in China and vice versa.
During the meeting, Wang Yi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and congratulated Prabowo on his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
“I congratulate Your Excellency on being elected as the president of the Republic of Indonesia with the highest vote count in the history of Indonesia’s elections,” said Wang Yi.
The Chinese Foreign Minister expressed his confidence in Prabowo’s leadership, believing that Indonesia will progress under his guidance towards national development and a brighter future.
“I am confident that Your Excellency will lead Indonesia towards national development and resurgence, ushering in an even brighter future under your leadership,” said Wang Yi.
