Professor Hikmahanto Juwana, an expert in International Relations (IR), praised the Indonesian government’s proactive actions led by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to assist in the emergency situation in Gaza, Palestine. He commended Indonesia for providing concrete assistance to Gaza, which he believes surpasses other countries attending the High-Level Emergency Response Summit for Gaza in Amman, Jordan.
According to Hikmahanto, Indonesia’s actions speak louder than words, as the country is not only talking but also taking tangible steps to help. Indonesia has plans to accommodate 1,000 patients and 1,000 students from Gaza for medical treatment and education in Indonesia. This bold move, he stated, could potentially unsettle the United States and Israel.
Hikmahanto emphasized that Indonesia’s proactive stance could exert pressure on Israel and its ally, the United States, to halt the atrocities in Gaza. He expressed hope that other countries would follow Indonesia’s lead in taking concrete action to address the situation in Gaza.
He called for the formation of a humanitarian coalition to combat Israel’s actions, emphasizing that the world needs to prioritize humanity in addressing the crisis. Hikmahanto believed that a focus on humanity would garner support from various parties and contribute to halting the violence in Gaza.
