Jakarta — Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Egypt, Ahmed Al Tayeb at the Ministry of Defense on Wednesday (10/7) afternoon.
Ahmed Al Tayeb and his delegation arrived at the Ministry of Defense at 3:00 PM and were warmly welcomed by Prabowo, with handshakes and a media greeting.
They then proceeded together, accompanied by a guard of honor and a marching band. The meeting, lasting about an hour, was warm and cordial, with M. Quraish Shihab, the former 16th Minister of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, also in attendance.
Prabowo expressed his gratitude for the visit, mentioning the historical ties between Egypt and Indonesia. He also praised Egypt’s history and the support of Al Azhar towards Indonesia.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar congratulated Prabowo on his election as President of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period, wishing him success in his duties and leadership.
Gifts were exchanged at the end of the meeting, with Prabowo receiving a book and a Quran, and presenting a keris and a plaque from the Ministry of Defense as gifts in return.
