Prabowo Subianto and Australian PM discuss regional challenges and joint military exercises

Bilateral Talks Between Indonesian Defense Minister and Australian Officials in Canberra

Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, held bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Australian Deputy Prime Minister who also serves as the Minister of Defense, Richard Marles, in Canberra, Australia on Tuesday (20/8).

The discussions focused on defense cooperation between the two countries, with plans to renew their cooperation through the “Defence Cooperation Agreement” (DCA) to enhance bilateral relations.

“We have made significant progress on the DCA, ironing out legal details that will be beneficial,” said Prabowo.

Albanese emphasized that the historic agreement will strengthen defense cooperation through dialogue, interoperability, and field practices, serving as a crucial reference for stability in the region.

Marles highlighted that the completion of negotiations for the new defense agreement will allow for expanded joint military exercises, bringing Australia and Indonesia closer together to tackle regional challenges.

The meeting was attended by various high-ranking Australian officials, including Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Finance Minister Jim Chalmers, and other ministers and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams.
