Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto welcomed General Bryan P. Fenton, Commander of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and his delegation at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Thursday (22/8).
General Bryan P. Fenton was received by Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Defense, M. Herindra, with an honor guard. Following the formal reception, Prabowo held discussions with the U.S. Special Operations Command delegation in his office.
“Thank you for this honorable visit. As a close friend of Indonesia, the U.S. is expected to help strengthen the partnership between our two countries,” Prabowo stated.
“Thank you for your time, sir. It’s a pleasure to meet and embrace you,” General Bryan responded.
This meeting follows the agreement on November 13, 2023, in Washington, D.C., where President Jokowi and U.S. President Joseph R. Biden agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
In line with that agreement, the focus of this meeting was to strengthen the partnership, especially in the defense sector.
Indonesia is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Indonesia-U.S. Security Dialogue scheduled for October. This dialogue serves as a crucial platform for enhancing bilateral security cooperation, addressing common challenges, promoting regional stability, and fostering mutual understanding. (RR)
