Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, had a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, September 7. The two leaders, who have a long-standing friendship, discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Prior to this meeting, Prabowo also met with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. During their discussions, Prabowo and Anwar reiterated their commitment to strengthening the existing bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
“I appreciate our productive discussion today. Indonesia is dedicated to building a harmonious and mutually beneficial defense relationship with Malaysia,” stated Prabowo.
During the meeting, Prabowo personally invited Anwar to attend his presidential inauguration in Jakarta, which is scheduled for October.
Anwar expressed his joy at meeting his longtime friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as the next president of Indonesia.
“Met with my dear friend, President-elect of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto. I am pleased to accept his invitation to the presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024, in Jakarta,” Anwar posted on his official Instagram account, @anwaribrahim_my.
In terms of bilateral relations, Anwar emphasized his commitment to further enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.
“Our main focus is on strengthening the ties between our nations and reaffirming our dedication to regional cooperation within ASEAN,” Anwar stated. (RR)
