NTT Mother Witnesses Positive Impact of Free School Meals on Child’s Development

Ester Nenggokaka, a resident of Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, embodies the essence of a simple yet resilient life. Despite facing various challenges, her unwavering dedication to providing the best for her two children shines through. Starting her day by selling vegetables and tending to her family, Ester’s perseverance is evident.

One of Ester’s children, Lorensius Aganta, at two years old, was underweight, only weighing 7 kilograms before benefiting from the Free Nutritious Meal (Makan Bergizi Gratis, MBG) program. Ester, grateful for this initiative, noticed a positive impact on her son’s health after receiving the nutritious meals.

Regular distribution of MBG meals has led to a noticeable improvement in Lorensius’ weight, a change that Ester eagerly awaits monitoring at the local community clinic. Every morning, she receives a variety of nutritious food items for her children, ensuring they maintain a balanced diet with eggs, fish, meat, tofu, tempeh, and vegetables.

While acknowledging the assistance of the MBG program, Ester remains hopeful for the future. She envisions a better tomorrow and looks forward to further support from President Prabowo to enhance their living conditions. Despite facing adversities like lack of electricity or land ownership, Ester finds solace in the nourishment her children receive and holds onto optimism for the days ahead.
