Empowering Priority Targets: Placing State-Owned Enterprises at the Helm of Economic Growth

By Prabowo Subianto, excerpted from “National Transformation Strategy: Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” pages 210, fourth softcover edition.

Prabowo Subianto firmly believes that State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) should be at the forefront of strategic initiatives and act as the primary agents for implementation. This approach has been successfully utilized by countries like Singapore and China, which have a significant number of SOEs. Subianto argues that Indonesia should adopt a similar strategy.

He emphasizes the importance of attracting and hiring skilled managers, engineers, and board members within SOEs. Subianto questions the lack of belief in talented individuals in Indonesia and highlights the need to provide opportunities for them.

Drawing from his experience in the military, Subianto references the maxim, “There are no bad soldiers, only bad commanders,” to emphasize the impact of leadership. He believes that effective guidance can lead to success for young people and professionals in Indonesia, a belief he has seen validated many times.
