BMW Menunda Kehadiran di MotoGP hingga 2027

BMW M Motorsport’s top figure, Markus Flasch, has stated that while MotoGP is still under consideration, it is “unlikely” for the company to enter the series with the new 850cc regulations in 2027.
With Suzuki’s departure from MotoGP at the end of 2022, a vacant spot on the grid opened up opportunities for new manufacturers. However, in August 2024, Dorna announced that the grid would be limited to 22 riders, and new manufacturers could only enter by collaborating with existing independent teams. This makes it difficult for BMW to enter MotoGP as a direct factory team.
Especially after Toprak Razgatlıoglu’s departure, competing in World Superbike (WSBK) and set to leave BMW at the end of the 2025 season to move to MotoGP with Pramac Yamaha, the brand’s racing strategy is being questioned again.
Speaking to Australian-based AMCN, Flasch stated that BMW is still developing its motorsport strategy and said, “MotoGP is something that has long been discussed within BMW. But, we have not yet made a final decision. First, we will make a strategic decision, then we will determine how to move towards the technical aspect. For 2027, participating in MotoGP is not possible for us at the moment.”
“We continue to work on our motorsport strategy. MotoGP is one option, off-road is another option. Superbike is not a ‘bad’ thing, it’s just too Europe-centric.”
Flasch said they still need a few more months to make a final decision.
On the other hand, BMW is preparing to maintain its presence in WSBK. In 2026, Danilo Petrucci, with race wins in MotoGP, is expected to replace Toprak Razgatlioglu, who has moved to Yamaha.
Currently, there are five manufacturers in MotoGP: Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Yamaha, and Honda. If BMW joins this group, it will have to partner with an independent team. However, there have been no concrete steps taken in this direction at this point.
